Bugzilla – Bug 567912
XFS filesystem crash.
Last modified: 2010-11-27 20:59:38 UTC
Created attachment 334728 [details] messages log at the time it crashed. Under some circunstances, an XFS filesystem may lock and crash the entire system I had created 4 XFS, LUK encripted, filesystems, of DVD size, for backup purposes, on which I had copied several files, and was running par2 an all four of them. Suddenly, after perhaps 20 minutes, cpu usage stopped, the processes stuck and were unkillable, several partition were not umountable (all that were XFS, or the one that hold loop-mounted small xfs, encripted, filesystems). Processes showed in "top" as waiting - sorry, the screen capture has been lost in the process. System could not be rebooted, I had to powercycle it. SMOLT: http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_48ea7e31-b8d3-4dc0-b3bf-49401155e07f I will attach message log showing kernel oops.
Created attachment 334729 [details] Some notes Some notes and commands captured during the event.
Upstream SGI says it is caused by a DM lockup, not XFS code. http://oss.sgi.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=860
Opened Bug 568319 - DM lockup causes filesystem failure
Mounting nobarrier avoids the issue in 11.2 - per the suggestion in the SGI bugzilla. It does not work for 11.0
This should be fixed now. Please verify. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 568319 ***
